Direct Support Professional
Responsibilities:
- Assist individuals with performing activities of daily living skills and grooming needs as appropriate while in the community.
- Develop individualized calendars for preferred community participation.
- Provide transportation for individuals to destinations and participate in community events.
- Assist individuals with accessing community resources.
- Provide consistent supervision for community activities.
- Encourage peer-to-peer interaction and socialization with persons who are not disabled.
- Provide positive behavioral support when individuals display challenging behaviors.
- Follow regulations established by Marry's House, Offices of Licensing and Human Rights, and Medicaid when providing services.
- Assist individuals with appropriate use of leisure time.
- Administer medication as prescribed by physicians.
- Document service delivery and develop well-written progress notes according to service plans.
- Initiate incident reports for serious injuries and other incidents happening on-site.
- Attend in-services as scheduled & maintain required certifications.
- Support individuals with meal preparation and eating skills according to dietary plans.
- Clean equipment and document results on the equipment log.
- Work extra hours as needed to cover emergencies and vacancies.
Qualifications:
- Skilled in writing progress notes and documenting services.
- Ability to administer medication.
- Effective written & oral communication skills.
- Familiar with principles of behavioral modification.
- High School diploma or GED + one (1) year of experience working with the population served is preferred.
- Pass a criminal background and registry check.
- Possess a valid driver’s license and have a satisfactory driving record.
- Certifications required in Medication, Behavior Management, DSP Orientation, Blood Bourne Pathogens, Human Rights, Person Centeredness, Emergency Preparedness, Home Community Based Services, Reporting and Documenting Serious Injuries Levels 1, 2 & 3.
